IGNITE REHABILITATION INITIATIVE

Mission Statement:

To promote and deliver comprehensive, equine rehabilitation strategies through an integrated interdisciplinary approach that emphasizes evidence-based practice with a focus on validating clinically-effective techniques for musculoskeletal  dysfunction.

Our IGNITE Equine Rehabilitation Initiative is led by Melissa King DVM PhD DACVSMR, Associate Professor in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, Colorado State University and Emily Rose PT DPT CERP, Reaching Strides Equine Rehabilitation, WI has been working on  the above mission statement for this initiative.

Also involved in this initiative are Kirk Peck, Hayley Sulivan, Ryland Edwards, Mark Revenaugh, Joop Loomans, Beate Egner, Joao Paulo Marques and Teresa Federsel.

This  has led to the following activities for 2025:

  • Bi monthly RehabRounds where we discuss a case from the perspectives of different disciplines guided by experts on Zoom, starting April 24th. This creates a network of different professionals working on equine athletes.

  • Development of Treatment and Rehabilitation Guidelines, starting with the SI joint, like what is available in human medicine. This is based on literature and what is really happening in practice.

  • Add a clear rehabilitation part to our Equine Clinicians Registry that starts in May with suspensory ligament injuries and treatments. The ECR will collect and analyze data on real cases happening in practice.

  • Provide input for the November 2025  Orthobiologics Summit Online on Translational Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation.

RehabRounds:

Thursday August 28th 2025, 10:30 AM Pacific, 1:30 PM EST, 6:30 PMUK, 7:30 PM Central Europe
