Equine Clinicians Registry

What is it?

The IGNITE Equine Clinicians Registry (“ECR”) is an initiative created by IGNITE to acquire and analyze clinical data in order to gain deeper insight into outcomes for equine athletes being treated with Orthobiologics and Regenerative medicine.

With the ECR, we aim to benefit the entire equine industry with data and outcome-based insights that will inspire progress for the long-term well-being of horses in sport.

What can we learn from Human Medicine?

What are the objectives of the ECR?

  1.  Characterize the clinical course of sport horses following orthobiologic or regenerative medicine treatment for musculoskeletal injury.

  2. Characterize the clinical course, stratified by type of injury, and orthobiologic treatment.

  3. Track response to treatment of clinically affected but not yet lame horses with the intention to improve performance, longevity, prevent lameness, and reduce secondary injury.

Why did we start the ECR?

There are many challenges and shortcomings currently limiting Orthobiologics research:

  • Most equine clinical research is done with horses who are not active in sport

  • Most research studies have relatively low case numbers

  • Outcome parameters are not well-established

  • Standardized values for “return to sport” (such as rate of recurrence and time to return to sport) are lacking and are not well understood for each equestrian discipline

  • Independent information about safety and adverse events pertaining to orthobiologics is either not available or collected by the producers of the product, which creates a perception of bias

  • Study designs are inconsistent making comparative assessments impossible

  • Collection of data for horses in real-world circumstances is logistically difficult

  • Large variations exist in case management strategies between disciplines as well as across geographical boundaries

  • Comparison of findings between practices is difficult due to a lack of consistent methodology

  • Until now, there has been no independent organization dedicated to addressing these issues

What we provide:

Registry and Protocol:

As an independent organization, we have developed a registry and protocol for data collection that launched on January 2nd, 2023.

Membership:

For participating practices, we offer Clinician Memberships (described below).

Support:

We provide a point person to support all participating practices and manage the adaptive study with regular feedback from stakeholders.

Scientific Advisory Committee:

We have an esteemed advisory committee consisting of Anne Lindblad PhDBiostatistician, Lauren Schnabel DVM PhD DACVS DACVSMR, Kyla Ortved DVM PhD DACVS DACVSMR and Mindy Story DVM DACVS.

Requirements for Membership:

  • Members will provide a minimum of 72 cases per year unless otherwise agreed upon

  • Cases must meet the ECR case selection criteria outlined in the protocol

  • Members are obliged to get Horse owners’ consent for the use of data in the ECR

  • Each case requires follow-up assessments for a minimum of 6 months after the initial exam

  • Members pay a one-time non-refundable membership fee of $2,500 to IGNITE due upon the execution of the provided ECR member agreement

  • If all requirements are completed in the first 12 months following the execution of the ECR member agreement, 50 Class B non-voting shares will be granted to the member, subject to IGNITE conditions and terms

Membership Benefits:

  • Annual meetings (in person or online) with the Clinician members and the scientific advisors

  • Access to the Equine Clinicians Registry User Group on our platform

  • Input and contribution to the ongoing improvement of data collection, processing, and analysis, and analysis

  • Access to statistical analysis and visualizations in the platform

  • Reports with select outcome parameters applied to the clinicians’ enrolled cases

  • Reports with select aggregate data visualizations and outcomes

  • One year free IGNITE Elite Membership
